Vancouver Counsellor Erica Beauchamp Featured on 730 CKNW’s The Jill Bennett Show to Discuss BC’s First Winter Without “Falling Back”
Beauchamp’s free Winter Daylight Checker tool prompted the on-air segment on how skipping this November’s clock change will affect mood and energy across Metro Vancouver
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VANCOUVER, B.C. — October 28, 2026 — Erica Beauchamp, M.Ed., RCC, a Vancouver-based registered clinical counsellor and founder of Counsel Me Vancouver, appeared on 730 CKNW’s The Jill Bennett Show today for a segment on the psychological effects of B.C.’s first “no fall back” winter — and the free public tool she built to help residents see the shift for themselves.
B.C. made its final seasonal clock change on March 8, 2026, and will not turn clocks back on November 1 as in past years. The practical effect: Metro Vancouver mornings lose roughly 117 hours of daylight between November and March compared with a normal year, while afternoons gain roughly 105 hours. Beauchamp built the Winter Daylight Checker (counselmevancouver.com/insights/vancouver-winter-daylight-checker) so residents can see exactly how the change affects their own day.
“Our bodies don’t run on the clock, they run on light,” Beauchamp said. “When sunrise moves from around 7:30 to past 8:30, people feel that in their energy and mood before they understand why — this winter, there’s no ‘fall back’ to soften it, so it’s worth naming ahead of time.”
Beauchamp was careful to frame the shift as a trade-off rather than a straightforward loss. “It’s not just darker mornings — afternoons get noticeably brighter too,” she said. “For people who struggle most with that 4 p.m. wall in December, this winter may actually help.”
