In this podcast, our team member and knowledgeable counsellor, Huda Sajjad, talks about grief, loss and counselling therapy.  She addresses issues such as managing loss, the grieving process, and how counselling can help.

What is Grief?

Grief is something we experience when we loose something or someone we care about.  It comes about in many forms and can be a very painful and isolating experience.  It can feel like our whole world has changed and comes with a plethora of emotions both “good” and “bad”.  This can be extremely overwhelming and saddening.  Grief by Google definition is “deep sorrow, especially that caused by someone’s death.”

How long does grief last?

The length of which grief can last varies and depends on multiple factors.  Some losses feel bigger than others.  We might grieve something that we think should be insignificant or not grieve something significant as deeply as we thought we would.  This all gets confusing and can lead to feelings of guilt or shame. Each grief we experience is different and unfortunately we cannot predict how long it’ll last.

That being said, we at CMV believe that counselling therapy can help speed the process of healing and meaning making.  We also believe that having a safe space to talk about the grieved something or someone is invaluable.
