Gottman Couples Counselling Vancouver

The Gottman approach is a premier standard of couples counselling. Our Vancouver Gottman Therapists must undergo specific training to call themselves a Gottman Therapist. Gottman Couples Sessions

Gottman Couples Sessions are offered as the traditional style of 90-minute appointments weekly or bi-weekly and as the Marathon Couples Therapy method. This therapy is heavily research-based and has been extensively developed by the Gottmans to ensure its effectiveness in helping couples overcome their struggles and significantly improve their relationships.

Marathon Couples Therapy

Marathon Couples Therapy is a condensed version of couples therapy that involves meeting for 6 hour sessions (with breaks) to get a lot done right away. It’s like taking 4 couples therapy sessions and putting them all together rather than spreading them out over the course of 4-8 weeks. This way, couples are able to talk in depth about the struggles and challenges they face in their relationship without the interruption of time limits. There is time to thoroughly process ongoing issues in the relationship, past injuries to the relationship, and possible future pending concerns. There is time to then learn, use, and practice communication tools designed to create more productive conversations. Session Structure

The sessions will focus on key areas of your relationship that need help. Many aspects of most relationships are working just fine. With this in mind, we’ll address the parts of your relationship that are currently undermined and in need of some nurturing and support.

The first few Vancouver couples counselling sessions will provide a clear assessment of your relationship and your individual characteristics, histories, and personalities that lend to the behaviour seen in your relationship. This structure will give your relationship many refreshing and effective tools to help you achieve your relationship goals.

During sessions, you’ll work through ongoing issues that you’ve been having in your relationship so that you can move past these and get back to a happier, healthier couple. You’ll also learn tools and practice using them with your partner in a safe and guided environment. Finally, you’ll discover how to balance, remedy and meld your trouble spots with what’s still working perfectly fine in your relationship.
