Am I Depressed?

Finally, the rain is gone! But why do I still feel sad? A lot of people suffer from seasonal depression, and believe that their depression will go away as soon as the weather turns. This often leads to people going on sunny vacations and seeking out warm climates in the winter time. After a long winter season of rainy days in Vancouver, you would think that the sun would make you feel happier , but what if it doesn’t? If this sounds familiar, your depression might be influenced by more than just the weather.
So what do you do when you’re feeling blue?
Getting rid of depression isn’t easy and it’s not something that just sun and time will fix. Buying things and seeking out external happiness doesn’t usually do the trick either, at least not long term. So what can you do? This is where Counselling can come in. Our experienced counsellors can teach you a variety of tools to change the way you think, which will change the way you feel.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a counselling approach used to challenge thinking patterns that you have developed over the years. It asserts that the way we think is influenced by the way we feel, which influences our behaviour. Furthermore, CBT says that these three elements (thoughts, feelings, and behaviours) intermingle to create our experience of life. The idea behind this is that if you change one element, you can change the other two. In other words, if you change your thinking, it will change how you feel or behave or if you change how you behave it can change how you think and feel and so on. With Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and depression, us counsellors like to attack the thoughts so that you can gain more control over your feelings. Learn the tools to change your mood with the help of our professional counselling therapists.  You don’t have to keep feeling low.  Find out more about how to relieve your ongoing winter blues so that depression doesn’t dampen your summer.
