Harjeet Thiara RPC-C/Trauma Informed Life Skills Coach

My Counselling Approach
I am trained under a trauma-informed lens and I work with many counselling modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Adlerian Theory, Gestalt, Life Coaching, Spiritual Wellness.
I am passionate in helping both adults and youth navigate and work through challenges including:
Life transitions, stress and anxiety relief, break up recovery, grief and loss, friendship and personal identity, disordered eating, cultural complexities and other painful life struggles.
My Background
I am a Registered Professional Counsellor affiliated with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association. I hold a Professional Counsellor Diploma from Rhodes Wellness College and a certification in Public Relations and Mass Communications from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
My passion lies in holistic well-being, encompassing mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness. Thus, I strive to explore all these aspects of my clients’ well-being to ensure that their pain is comprehensively addressed. Additionally, I work as a teaching assistant at Rhodes Wellness College, providing support to counselling therapy students.
Before embarking on my counselling career, I served as a mental health coach, delivering individual support to clients through the application of various modalities tailored to their needs. Furthermore, I worked as a community support worker, assisting neurodiverse youth who encountered difficulties in integrating into mainstream society. Through this role, I helped these young individuals foster a sense of belonging and stability in their communities by equipping them with tools and guiding them through their personal challenges. These past experiences and personal growth compelled me to pursue formal training as a counsellor, enabling me to better assist individuals in need. Subsequently, I engaged in classroom work, developed therapeutic workshops, and provided one-on-one support in client settings.
I firmly believe that counselling therapy need not be overwhelming and that, with the right support, it can become the most beneficial tool for an individual’s healing journey. The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client holds immense value to me, as I consider it a foundation for cultivating trust, fostering healthy connections, and nurturing self-confidence. Employing a variety of research-based techniques and modalities, I empower clients to navigate life’s challenges. By collaboratively exploring the root causes of their pain, I customize my approach to each individual, facilitating self-awareness and personal growth.
When I’m not in the therapy room, you can find me exploring the beautiful landscapes of British Columbia with my small dog, Chance, who possesses an unmistakable personality. I also enjoy reading books, admiring sunsets, and cherishing quality time with my close family and friends.
